More photos below

KARACHI, PAKISTAN April 15, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 240,000 meals to families in Pakistan in time for the Ramadan season.

Food packages were delivered to approximately families living in various villages in the Sindh province. The packages included items such as rice, flour, salt, vermicelli, spices, lentils, and cooking oil.

According to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal, beneficiaries included many families with young children and the elderly.

“Families smiled from ear to ear as they received their food package just in time for Ramadan,” Bashir said. “This month will be a time of reflection and a time of nourishment for families in Pakistan.”

According to UNICEF, one year after unprecedented floods ravaged Pakistan, millions of children still needed humanitarian assistance and access to essential services. Approximately 2 million homes were lost in the Sindh province alone.

In addition to food assistance in Pakistan, Baitulmaal responds to emergencies such as flooding and earthquakes, provides seasonal aid, and facilitates water access projects such as water filtration plants and wells.  900 Families in Palestine Receive Winter Aid

JERUSALEM, PALESTINE, January 29, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed essential winter relief to 900 vulnerable Palestinian families in Jerusalem and West Bank.

The aid included heaters, blankets, and winter clothing —including jackets for children —to help families stay warm during the cold months.

According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included children, households with unemployed workers, orphan families, the elderly and people with disabilities.

“Winter is especially cruel for families experiencing economic difficulties,” Sherif said. “Without adequate heating or warm clothing, the risks to their health and safety rise dramatically.”

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), winter temperatures in Palestine can drop as low as 3°C (37°F), leaving thousands of vulnerable families at risk of cold-related illnesses and worsening living conditions.

In addition to providing winter relief in Palestine, Baitulmaal has also provided educational support, Ramadan food packages, emergency aid and hygienic supplies. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit johnjanney.org/.

120,000 Displaced Palestinians Receive Food, Hygiene Supplies in Gaza

More photos and video below

RAFAH, PALESTINE January 18, 2024 – Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed emergency humanitarian aid to 120,000 displaced Palestinians in Gaza after the successful entry of Baitulmaal’s second aid convoy from Egypt earlier this week.

Ten trucks crossed into Gaza from the Rafah border crossing carrying humanitarian aid such as 2,160 food packages, 2,700 hygiene kits, and 120 tonnes of freshly ground and packed flour.

According to Ahmed Sherif, international offices manager at Baitulmaal, the expressed needs of displaced Palestinians were taken into account when determining what aid to secure on the restricted numbers of trucks that are allowed into Gaza.

“We prioritized dignity kits for women and girls after hearing about their struggles,” Sherif said. “We also took into consideration other needs such as dry yeast to bake bread, as well as their desire for coffee and tea that gives them some comfort.”

The 120 tonnes of flour were allocated to families in Khan Younis, Rafah, and cancer and kidney failure patients. According to Sherif, a local group of women volunteered to prepare 120,000 loaves of fresh bread for these patients.

This aid convoy was overseen and prepared in Egypt by a delegation of U.S.-based activists that included Linda Sarsour, Zahra Billoo and Suzie Othman.

“Resources are getting into Gaza,” Sarsour said, referring to Baitulmaal’s ability to pass inspections and send critical aid into Gaza. She thanked the charity and its donors who “allow us to bless the people who are in Gaza and all around the world who need these resources in these very dire times.”

Since October 7, Israeli forces have killed more than 25,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, injured more than 57,000, and displaced more than 1 million residents, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Israel also imposed a blockade on food, water, fuel and electricity from entering Gaza. Prior to October 7, Gaza relied on more than 500 humanitarian aid trucks per day to meet the needs of the population. Since then, only a fraction of aid trucks have been allowed in.

Baitulmaal’s first humanitarian aid convoy successfully entered Gaza with 14 trucks of aid. This will be the second aid convoy that has entered Gaza, with more aid convoys on the way.

In addition to the successful entry of humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza, Baitulmaal has been on the ground in Gaza providing food, shelter kits, hygiene supplies, clean water, psychosocial support and other emergency aid since October 7. Baitulmaal has been working in Palestine for more than a decade providing food, clothing, education support, seasonal giving, emergency aid and healthcare in Palestine, in addition to operating 400 water tanks in Gaza. Having staff and resources on the ground has enabled Baitulmaal to quickly mobilize emergency aid from existing stock within Gaza to families in need.

Baitulmaal continues to provide aid during the current crisis and will deliver more aid into Gaza as the situation allows. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to Baitulmaal’s efforts in Palestine, please visit their website at johnjanney.org/.

Displaced Syrian Families Receive Food for 195,300 Meals

IDLIB, SYRIA September 19, 2023 – Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently delivered food packages for 195,300 meals to displaced Syrian families.

Approximately 350 families received food packages that included items such as cooking oil, rice, flour, lentils and canned goods. Beneficiaries lived in three camps and two communities in Maa’raat Masrin in northern Syria.

According to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal, most of these camps were established after displacement waves in early 2020 and were impacted by massive earthquakes earlier this year.

“These families live in extreme poverty and struggle with hunger on a routine basis,” said Sohail. “Every day without food is an emergency. Thanks to generous donors, vulnerable families had enough food supplies to help alleviate hunger in these difficult times.”

Ongoing conflict has displaced more than 6.7 million people — including 2.5 million children — within Syria. Another 6.6 million Syrians live as refugees in neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkiye. According to the UN, Syria is among the 10 most food insecure countries globally, with a staggering 12 million people considered to be food insecure.

Baitulmaal has been on the ground in northwest Syria delivering food, rebuilding schools, completing water access projects, and responding to emergencies including the recent earthquakes. Hospitals and clinics in northern Syria were among the recipients of a $5.35M medical aid shipment. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit johnjanney.org/.
