KABUL, AFGHANISTAN May 17, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently delivered 500 food packages that provided 225,000 meals for impoverished families in Afghanistan during Ramadan.

More than 3,700 Afghans living in the mountainous region of Badakhshan received food packages that contained flour, sugar, oil and dates. According to Elizabeth Sohail, program director at Baitulmaal, many of the families were landless and had no income sources. Recipients included orphans, widows, amputees and the elderly.

“These families live in geographically difficult places to reach, and they were in great need of this food assistance,” Sohail said. “They were so grateful to donors who ensured that families like theirs were included in Ramadan giving.”

Baitulmaal delivered approximately 4 million meals to those in need around the world this past Ramadan. The food distribution in Afghanistan was coordinated with the local Afghan-American-founded Education and Occupation Committee (EOC). The two charities have been working together to address the needs of Afghan families in crisis. KABUL, AFGHANISTAN March 28, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently delivered emergency aid to 2,625 earthquake survivors in Afghanistan earlier this month.

Approximately 350 families in the Badghis province received  food parcels which included flour, rice, cooking oil, and washing soap. The beneficiaries included 190 orphans, 62 widows, and many impoverished families according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“The residents of this province are struggling to access food and safe drinking-water,” Sohail said. “Humanitarian support for the survival of earthquake-affected families, particularly children and women, is very crucial as they are in dire need.”

On January 27, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake struck the northwest region of Afghanistan impacting the Badghis province. The earthquake struck at a time when the people of the Badghis province are struggling to cope with the shocks and stresses of a deepening humanitarian crisis, droughts, violence and most recently, the freezing winters.

According to findings by the United Nations (OCHA), the earthquake in northwestern Afghanistan destroyed more than 1,000 homes.

Baitulmaal has been on the ground in Afghanistan mobilizing aid to affected areas. In addition to delivering emergency aid after earthquakes and floods, Baitulmaal provides food, winter supplies and income generation projects. Afghan Families Provided Economic Opportunities Amid Instability

???? More photos below… ????

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN, Feb 4, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently provided merchant carts to 75 internally displaced families in Afghanistan to promote economic opportunities in the poverty-stricken region.

Families in the Kunduz province were provided carts and merchandise to help generate income after struggling with employment due to instability in Afghanistan. The charity prioritized vulnerable families with disabled members, young girls and pregnant women in order to help alleviate their difficulties and enable children to go to school.

According to Elizabeth Sohail, program manager at Baitulmaal, the carts help improve the economic situation for more than 600 individuals.

“These mobile carts are enabling Afghans to rebuild their lives,” Sohail said. “We know of a few cases where the income earned through these carts have allowed families to open stores and improve economic activity in their neighborhoods.”

Economic empowerment projects are vital to stabilizing communities and improving security in the region, Sohail continued. They also enable children to remain in school rather than work to support their families.

Baitulmaal helped repatriate 350 families from Kabul to their hometowns after upheaval gripped Afghanistan in late August. More than 270,000 Afghans fled their homes since the beginning of the year, according to the UN. In total, over 4 million Afghans are displaced. A recent UN report estimates that 98 percent of the Afghan population will be living in poverty by the middle of 2022, up from a current poverty rate of 72 percent.

Baitulmaal has been working with the Afghan-American-founded Education and Occupation Committee (EOC) to address the immediate needs of Afghan families as well as implement long-term projects such as the merchant carts. ???? More photos below… ????

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN, January 10, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian relief agency, recently distributed winter aid to more than 400 impoverished families in Afghanistan ahead of the winter season.

Food and non-food items such as blankets, clothing, shoes, firewood, charcoal and soap were distributed to approximately 3,200 displaced and poor Afghans in Kabul. A majority of the recipients were women and children.

According to Elizabeth Sohail, program manager at Baitulmaal, these families have been impacted by the recent unrest in Afghanistan and are attempting to reintegrate into their communities amid the instability.

“Many families returned to their homes but are struggling to keep warm and buy food,” Sohail said. “Staples such as rice, cooking oil and firewood are blessings during these difficult times.”

A recent UN report estimates that 98 percent of the Afghan population will be living in poverty by the middle of 2022, up from a current poverty rate of 72 percent. Approximately 23 million Afghans are facing extreme levels of hunger, with nearly nine million at risk of famine this year.

In addition to providing food and other aid, Baitulmaal has been working with the Afghan-American-founded Education and Occupation Committee (EOC) to evacuate Afghans and implement economic development projects. 350 Afghan Families Evacuated, Provided Aid

???? More photos below… ????

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN, September 16, 2021 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian relief agency, recently evacuated and aided 350 displaced families in Kabul who fled the recent civil unrest in Afghanistan.

Baitulmaal helped transport Afghans back to their homes and provided them with food packages and hygiene kits along the route of travel. These provisions also met their immediate needs upon arrival. In addition to food and hygiene supplies, families received financial assistance to help cover their basic necessities in the coming weeks.

According to Elizabeth Sohail, program manager at Baitulmaal, many families were living in limbo amid the growing crisis.

“Many Afghans wanted to return home but were worried about how they’d get back and how they’d cope once they did,” Sohail said. “Many markets were burned down and few supplies were left. Thanks to our donors, we were able to provide them with transportation, food and cash to help them rebuild their lives.”

More than 270,000 Afghans have been forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the year, according to the UN. In total, over 4 million Afghans have been displaced, accounting for the second largest displaced population in the world after Syria. Many families fled escalating violence and instability in recent weeks, seeking shelter in the main city of Kabul. They stayed in make-shift tents or slept in public parks as the tenuous situation unfolded around them. Many Afghans had no means to return to their homes and no provisions once they did return.

Baitulmaal has been working with the Afghan-American-founded Education and Occupation Committee (EOC) to address the immediate needs of Afghan families as well as implement longer term projects once more stability is achieved. International Charity and Afghan Refugees in America Team Up to Provide Emergency Aid in Afghanistan

???? Video Interview and News Feature Below ????

DALLAS, August 24, 2021 — Baitulmaal, an international humanitarian aid organization, is teaming up with Dallas-based Afghanistan relief nonprofit Education and Occupation Coalition to provide emergency food and hygiene supplies to displaced Afghans who fled the recent escalation of violence.

Representatives from both organizations were planning joint education and economic development projects in Afghanistan when the violence escalated. Elizabeth Sohail, program manager for Baitulmaal, said the conversations quickly shifted to emergency aid.

“We’re seeing a lot of displaced families who are stranded far from home and unsure of what they are returning to once they get back,” Sohail said. “So we’re providing food staples, basic hygiene supplies, cash assistance and bus transportation to help them get back on their feet.”

Wafa Parwana, a director with the Education and Occupation Coalition, said the situation is dire for Afghan families who fled the fighting, explaining that “children are baked by the sun during the day and eaten by mosquitoes throughout the night.”

A donation of $180 will provide one family with the total emergency aid package of food staples, hygiene supplies, cash assistance and bus transportation. Donors can also fund different parts of the aid package as follows:

  • $50 for bus transportation
  • $60 for cash assistance for basic necessities lost during the unrest
  • $70 for up to a month’s worth of food staples and basic hygiene supplies

However, donors can give any amount to the Baitulmaal Afghanistan Aid and all funds collected will be used to provide emergency aid packages to displaced Afghan families. People interested in helping can contribute at https://johnjanney.org/donate
