Fresh Meat for More Than 14.8K Meals Distributed to Orphans, Families in Yemen

ADEN, YEMEN July 5, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 14,835 meals to impoverished families in Yemen as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,405 families living in Taiz were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Many of the beneficiaries were orphans and families who have been left vulnerable due to years of conflict in Yemen, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal. 

“Children in Yemen have endured unimaginable hunger over the years,” said Bashir. “Our donors provided some relief by providing fresh meat for thousands of hungry children.”

According to UNICEF, more than 2.2 million children in Yemen are acutely malnourished, including nearly more than half a million children facing severe acute malnutrition, a life-threatening condition.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages, delivered more than $4 million in medical aid, constructed solar-powered water wells, and provided winter aid and hygiene kits in Yemen. Fresh Meat for 5.3K Meals Distributed to Displaced Families in Syria

ALEPPO, SYRIA July 3, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 5,360 meals to displaced families in Syria as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 965 families living in Aleppo, Idlib, and several camps received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep. 

The beneficiaries included many orphans and displaced families, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal.

“It’s not every day that families in Syria get to enjoy fresh meat with their meals,” said Bashir. “Baitulmaal donors made this possible for many families this Eid.”

According to UNICEF, thirteen years of conflict in Syria has left 15.3 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, including 7 million children. Of the country’s 6.8 million internally displaced people, 5.3 million require humanitarian support, including food assistance.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages, delivered more than $5.35 million in medical aid, delivered hygiene kits and water supplies, and provided emergency aid to families in Syria. Fresh Meat for More Than 14K Meals Distributed to Families in Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN July 1, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 14,264 meals to impoverished families in Afghanistan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 1,783 families living in the Laghman, Parwana, and Takhar provinces received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows. 

Most of the beneficiaries were orphan families, disabled people, and displaced families, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal. 

“Families in Afghanistan have endured unimaginable loss and pain in the past year,” said Bashir. “The power of compassion gave these families something to smile about on the day of Eid.” 

The United Nations reports that the aftermath of last year’s earthquake has left over 275,000 people affected, leaving widespread poverty, slow economic recovery, and job scarcity.

Fresh Meat for 4K Meals Distributed in Jordan

AMMAN, JORDAN June 24, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,000 meals to impoverished families in Jordan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 846 families living in Amman, Irbid, Jerash, Al Zarqaa, Madaba, and Al Mafraq received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Beneficiaries included orphans, widows, and people with disabilities, according to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal. 

“Families were so grateful to receive fresh meat just in time for Eid ul-Adha,” Bashir said. “Meat is a luxury that many families in Jordan don’t have.”  

According to the World Food Program, Jordan hosts over 760,000 refugees. Food security has been a key concern in Jordan due to the high levels of refugees.

ACCRA, GHANA June 20, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,000 meals to impoverished families in Ghana as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 800 families living in Ghana received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows. 

The beneficiaries included orphan families, the elderly, and people living with disabilities, according to Ahmed Sherif, international offices manager Baitulmaal.

“Everyone deserves to experience the blessings of Eid-ul-Adha,” said Sherif. “Families in Ghana left smiling ear to ear ready to enjoy the fresh meal for the day.”

According to the UN World Food Program, a main driver of hunger and malnutrition in Ghana is poverty; inefficient food systems are keeping poverty and food insecurity rates high with approximately 24.2 percent of the population in Ghana living below the national poverty line.

Fresh Meat for 285 Meals Distributed to Families in Mexico

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO June 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 285 meals to vulnerable families across Mexico as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

The meat was sourced locally from humanely-slaughtered cows and distributed to approximately 285 families in Mexico City, Toluca, and Puebla. According to Elizabeth Sohail, senior manager of domestic programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included orphan families, women, single mothers, and people with disabilities.

“What may seem like a simple donation is truly life-changing for families who have so little,” said Sohail. “The meat we provided gave our sisters and brothers the ability to celebrate Eid with dignity and hope.” 

According to a 2023 national survey by Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health, nearly 1 in 3 Mexican households experiences some level of food insecurity.

LOME, TOGO June 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,000 meals to impoverished families in Togo as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 800 families living in Lome and Sokode Cities in Southern and Middle regions received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows. 

The beneficiaries included orphan families and people living with disabilities, according to Ahmed Sherif, international offices manager at Baitulmaal.

“Many of the beneficiaries served have not had fresh meat in months,” said Sherif. “Our donors nourished bodies and souls during this celebratory time of Eid.”

According to the World Food Programme, 22 percent of the population in Togo require humanitarian assistance and over 280,000 people are at risk of falling into hunger.

Approximately 800 families living in the Kano and Yobe States in Northern Regions region received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows.

According to UNICEF, nearly 25 million people in Nigeria are at high risk of food insecurity, with 18 percent of the population living in severe poverty and 33 percent considered poor.

Fresh Meat for 6K Meals Distributed in Pakistan

KARACHI, PAKISTAN June 19, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 6,000 meals to impoverished families in Pakistan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

According to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal, approximately 1,000 families living in Sindh Province in the Southeastern Region of Pakistan received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows.

“These families can’t afford fresh meat,” Bashir said. “Children rejoiced in having an amazing meal to celebrate Eid with.”

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), food insecurity is a major concern for Pakistan, with approximately 37 percent of the population being food insecure.

Fresh Meat for 12K Meals Distributed in Somalia

GALKAYO, SOMALIA June 17, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 12,000 meals to impoverished families in Somalia as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,000 families living in the Mudug region received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered goats.

The beneficiaries included orphans, the elderly, and women-headed households, according to Ahmed Sherif, international offices manager at Baitulmaal.

According to the World Food Programme, 6.6 million people in Somalia are forecast to face crisis levels of hunger or worse – requiring urgent humanitarian assistance. A total of 1.8 million children face acute malnutrition through the year.
