Fresh Meat for 2K Meals Distributed to Families in Ghana During Udhiyah

ACCRA, GHANA June 20, 2025 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat that provided 2,000 meals to families across Ghana during Udhiyah.

Approximately 400 families living in Accra, Kumasi and Tamale received fresh meat from locally-sourced, humanely-slaughtered cows.

According to Ahmed Sherif, senior manager of international programs at Baitulmaal, most of the beneficiaries included widows, orphans, the elderly, displaced, and disabled people

“One father told us it was the first time in months his family sat together to enjoy a real meal with meat,” Sherif said. “This wasn’t just about food, it was a reminder of what it feels like to be cared for, and to be together.”

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), malnutrition affects nearly 19 percent of children under five in Ghana, making access to nutritious food like meat crucial for their growth and development.

In addition to providing fresh meat for Udhiyah, Baitulmaal has also provided Ramadan food packages in Ghana. To learn more about or contribute to these efforts, visit johnjanney.org/.

ACCRA, GHANA April 17, 2024 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed food packages that provided 69,000 meals to families in Ghana in time for the Ramadan season.

Food packages that included items such as rice, pasta, beans, canned goods, tea, and cooking oil were provided to families in the Accra region.

According to Elora Bashir, program operations manager at Baitulmaal, over 600 of these meals were provided during a community iftar where families came together to break their fast with Baitulmaal.

“The generosity and compassion of our donors is limitless,” Bashir said. “Thanks to them, mothers in Ghana went to bed every night knowing there will be food for their children the next day.”

According to the World Food Programme (WFP), poverty is a major cause of hunger and malnutrition in Ghana. Despite rapid urbanization, poverty and food insecurity are caused by inefficient food systems. Farmers face challenges from climate change, low prices, or poor road infrastructure.

In addition to this distrubution in Ghana, Baitulmaal has previously provided fresh meat for Udhiyah and Ramadan packages. If you would like to learn more about or contribute to these programs at Baitulmaal, please visit their website at johnjanney.org/.
