Fresh Meat for 2,625 Meals Distributed in Nigeria

ABUJA, NIGERIA July 28, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 2,625 meals to impoverished families in Nigeria as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 525 families living in the regions of Kano, Nasarawa, and Potiskum were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows. 

The beneficiaries included orphan families and people living with disabilities, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“People in Nigeria have endured extreme hunger over the years,” said Sohail. “Our donors generously provided thousands of people with fresh meat to celebrate Eid.”

According to UNICEF, nearly 25 million people in Nigeria are at high risk of food insecurity in 2023.

Fresh Meat for 3,875 Meals Distributed in Ghana

ACCRA, GHANA July 26, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 3,875 meals to impoverished families in Ghana as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 775 families living in Accra and the Ashanti region of Ghana were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows. 

The beneficiaries included orphan families and people living with disabilities, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“Many people in Ghana struggle to support their families,” said Sohail. “Thanks to our donors, these families were given the blessings of fresh meat for Eid.”

According to the World Food Programme, 24.2 percent of people in Ghana live below the national poverty line.

Fresh Meat for 7,000 Meals Distributed in Yemen

SANA’A, YEMEN July 24, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 7,000 meals to impoverished families in Yemen as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 1,000 families living in Sana’a and Ibb were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Many of the families have been internally displaced due to conflict in Yemen, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal. Recipients included families with vulnerable members such as widows/widowers, pregnant women, and disabled individuals.

“The people of Yemen have endured many hardships and continue to struggle with poverty,” said Sohail. “Our donors were able to help provide some relief by providing fresh meat for thousands of hungry people.”

The UN reports that Yemen is currently experiencing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis with over 17.4 million Yemenis struggling with food insecurity and malnutrition. An additional 1.6 million are expected to fall into emergency levels of hunger.

ALEPPO, SYRIA July 21, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 13,750 meals to impoverished families in Syria as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,750 families living in Aleppo, Idlib, and Tal Abyad were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep. 

The beneficiaries included women-headed households, low-income families, and elderly people, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“Syrian people have endured many hardships due to internal conflicts,” said Sohail. “Our donors were able to help them celebrate Eid with fresh meat.”

According to UNICEF, more than 6.5 million Syrian children are in need of assistance, many of these include orphans.

Fresh Meat for 11,800 Meals Distributed in Somalia

GALKAYO, SOMALIA July 19, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 11,800 meals to impoverished families in Somalia as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,000 families living in the Mudug region were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered goats.

The beneficiaries included orphans and impoverished families, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“Children smiled from ear to ear as they walked away with their bags of fresh meat for Eid ul-Adha,” said Sohail. “Our donors made these smiles possible.”

According to UNICEF, children under the age of 14 represent nearly half of Somalia’s population, and 73 percent of these children are poor.

GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE July 17, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 15,450 meals to impoverished families in Palestine as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,870 families living in the Gaza Strip were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep and cows.

Most of the beneficiaries were orphaned, displaced, or disabled, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“Like most of our work, we focused on the families and individuals facing the greatest hardships,” Sohail said. “Thankfully, we were able to deliver quality meat to over 15 thousand such people in Palestine.” 

According to the United Nations, 64.3 percent of Gaza’s population suffers from moderate to severe food insecurity.

KARACHI, PAKISTAN July 14, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 13,100 meals to impoverished families in Pakistan as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 1,926 families living in the Sujawal and Naushero Feroze Districts in Sindh Province as well in the Mansehra District of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province received fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered cows.

“These families live in unfortunate circumstances with little to no income to afford meat,” Sohail said. “To some, this might have been the first time eating meat this year.”

The World Food Programme reports that 36.9 percent of Pakistan’s population faces food insecurity, with 18 percent of children under 5 suffering from acute malnutrition.

BEIRUT, LEBANON July 12, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 9,736 meals to vulnerable families suffering from food insecurity in Lebanon, as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 614 families living in Sidon and Tyre were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep or cows.

The beneficiaries included orphan families, women-headed households, pregnant women, and Palestinian refugees, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal.

“Mothers caring for children while struggling with extreme poverty worry about feeding their children,” said Sohail. “Thanks to our donors, we were able to provide meat to alleviate these worries during Eid ul-Adha.”  

According to the United Nations, the population of Lebanon is around 5.5 million, and it is estimated that 2 million face food insecurity across the country due to multiple crises.

Fresh Meat for 10,400 Meals Distributed in Kenya

WAJIR, KENYA July 10, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 10,400 meals to impoverished families in Kenya as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 2,600 families living in Wajir county were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep and goats. According to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal, women-headed households, people living with disabilities, and the elderly were prioritized.

“We were happy to see  families smile and celebrate as they received their share of meat,” said Sohail. “Families in this region often earn as little as $2 a day due to drought-related economic hardships.”

The United Nations reports that after four successive failed rainy seasons, the people of Kenya have endured the worst drought in 40 years, causing many livestocks and livelihoods to be lost.

AMMAN, JORDAN July 7, 2023 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed fresh meat for 4,800 meals to impoverished families as part of the Islamic season of Udhiyah.

Approximately 1,000 families living in Amman, Irbid, Al Mafraq, Al Ramtha, Jerash, Madaba, and Al Balqa were given fresh meat from locally-sourced and humanely-slaughtered sheep.

Beneficiaries included refugees, orphans, widows and people with disabilities, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program development manager at Baitulmaal. 

“We distributed meat in 17 camps in the region to ensure families in need received it in time for Eid ul-Adha,” Sohail said. “Nearly 5,000 people were able to include fresh meat in holiday meals, thanks to our generous donors.”
