COX’S BAZAR, BANGLADESH April 19, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed 625 Ramadan food packages that provided 162,000 meals for Rohingya refugees living in camp settlements in Bangladesh.

Families in Cox’s Bazar received a month’s worth of items such as flour, sugar, lentils and oil, basic necessities that are out of reach for many living in refugee camps. IDLIB, SYRIA April 11, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently completed the distribution of food packages that provide 249,240 meals to internally displaced families in Northern Syria in time for the Ramadan season.

Approximately 670 families living in Idlib, Ma’arat Masrin and other areas in Northern Syria received the food packages. Contents included rice, flour, lentils, pasta, canned vegetables, dates and cooking oil. According to Baitulmaal program manager Elizabeth Sohail, the majority of food package recipients were women and children who recently settled in refugee camps in Northern Syria.

“It is increasingly difficult for these families to secure basic necessities now that food prices are soaring,” Sohail said. “They were incredibly grateful to receive items like cooking oil and rice which they might not have been able to purchase otherwise.”

The Syrian crisis has left more than 6.9 million Syrians internally displaced and another 5.1 million as refugees. An estimated 13.4 million people living within Syria – including those who are internally displaced – are in need of humanitarian assistance. The UN refugee agency calls it “the biggest humanitarian and refugee crisis of our time and a continuing cause for suffering.”

Winter Relief Distributed to Syrian Refugees in Turkish Camps and Caves

???? More photos below… ????

URFA, TURKEY, March 29, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently distributed winter relief to Syrian refugee families who arrived at the Turkish border town of Urfa.

Approximately 180 families received two heavy winter blankets each to help keep them warm. Many of the families live in the Al Jebeen refugee camp, but more than half are sheltering in caves on the outskirts of the settlement. Living conditions are especially harsh during winter months, according to Yousef Abdallah, Baitulmaal’s National Fundraising Director who recently visited the area.

“Some families sleep alongside animals at night in exchange for caring for them during the day because they have no other way to survive,” Abdallah said. “They were so grateful for the winter blankets they received to help keep them warm inside these cold and drafty caves.”

According to the UN Refugee Agency, Syria still has the largest displaced population in the world. More than 6.7 million people — including 2.5 million children — are displaced within Syria. Another 6.6 million Syrians live as refugees in neighboring countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. More than 90 percent of refugees live in extreme poverty and lack essential needs and services such as food, water, shelter, and healthcare.

$2M Emergency Medical Shipment to Aid Ukrainian Refugees

DALLAS, TEXAS, March 9, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, is preparing to ship medical aid valued at $2 million USD to provide lifesaving humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees fleeing the recent Russian invasion.

The shipment, which contains emergency medical equipment and triage supplies, will arrive in Moldova within the next two weeks, according to Baitulmaal program manager Elizabeth Sohail. Ensuring the health and safety of Ukrainian refugees is a matter of high concern for the charity as the situation continues to evolve.

“Many of these families scrambled to leave a frightening situation and urgently need medical assistance,” Sohail said. “Sending medical aid now will help provide lifesaving assistance before the situation gets worse.”

More than 4 Million Yemenis Benefit From Medical Distribution

???? More photos below… ????

ADEN, YEMEN, February 9, 2022 — Baitulmaal, a Dallas-based international humanitarian nonprofit, recently completed the distribution of medications and supplies to 49 health centers serving 4,454,177 Yemenis.

This distribution, part of a shipment valued at $4.6 million, targeted hospitals, primary care centers, trauma units and pharmacies in four governorates across Yemen. The health kits provide life-saving pharmaceuticals and essential medical, surgical, orthopedic, personal care, airway, and IV therapy kits to support the health and well-being of patients in Yemen, according to Elizabeth Sohail, program manager at Baitulmaal.

“Some of these health facilities had to close their doors because they did not have the necessary equipment and supplies to keep doctors and patients safe,” Sohail said. “With these health kits, Yemenis in search of healthcare won’t be turned away in their time of need.”

Considered the worst humanitarian crisis today, Yemen is poised to be the poorest nation in the world this year, according to the UN. An estimated 24 million people out of a population of 29 million are in need of healthcare support, but less than half of Yemen’s healthcare facilities are operational.

Since 2018, Baitulmaal donors have enabled millions of dollars in medication and healthcare supplies to reach vulnerable Yemenis. Donors have also funded two solar powered deep water wells as well as emergency distributions of food, hygiene kits, and winter supplies.
